View the Environmental Health and Safety website.

Through education and practical application, Penn State University has had a long-term commitment to protecting and improving the natural environment. The University has implemented numerous measures to protect the environment since the 1980's. Initiatives implemented under the direction of the Environmental Health and Safety office have primarily focused on reduction of hazardous waste and petroleum products as well as on sound fiscal management. In these applications, we have seen significant efforts in source reduction, redistribution, recycling, and substitution.

Initiatives include:

  • Chemical and Other Regulated Waste In Laboratories
  • Mercury Reduction
  • Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks
  • Recreational Activities
  • Office Operations
  • Maintenance Activities
  • Lion Surplus
  • Property Acquisition and Use
  • Non-Laboratory Chemical Use Areas
  • Reduction of Impacts of Hazardous Materials Releases
